ROXY Birsfelden: Team awareness training, developing, disseminating and implementing an awareness concept and learning communication strategies

ROXY Birsfelden is a venue and production centre for the independent contemporary theatre, dance and performance scene. It places a strong focus on supporting up-and-coming artists.

ROXY Birsfelden will develop its own awareness concept in 2026. To this end, the team will complete awareness-raising and communication training and explore conflict management, mechanisms of discrimination and sensitive language. These measures at the ROXY will be overseen by experts from the Awarenetz network and Julia Glaus. The aim is to create a space that is as free from discrimination as possible – for staff, artists and the public alike. To achieve this aim, the team, the Board of Directors and freelancers will work together to draw up a concept that defines the principles governing how we interact with one another and will communicate these both internally and externally.

ROXY attaches great importance to treating people with respect. The team is aware of the power structures that are often institutionally entrenched within the performing arts and wishes to foster a conscious and transparent approach to dealing with them. Last but not least, the training programme will focus on working with marginalised groups such as trans* and neurodivergent people. For the team, questioning their own privileges and paying greater attention to sensitive language will form the basis of fair practice.
