“Making Peace”

House peace and the path to democratic participation at Theater Chur

Modern operating structures are set to be established at Theater Chur. The theatre management and team are seeking to find collaborative methods for internal and external positioning that are future-oriented and appropriate to the modern tasks and needs of a theatre company such as Theater Chur. The company hopes to emerge from a conflict-ridden past and use the opportunity of its new beginning in 2024 to create new ideas.

This is where considerations on artistic peace research come into play. They will provide a structural and content framework for Theater Chur over the next few years. In order to communicate “peace” to the outside world as an artistic establishment, however, the company first wants to address its own potential for human and operational conflict. Its vision is to achieve peace through action. First as a team, then as an institution before taking it out into the city with artistic projects such as a people’s kitchen.

Topics that the team must tackle in this process: internal communication channels, interfaces, standard processes, deviating processes, dealing with conflicts, non-violent communication, processes of participation, models of hierarchy, possible paths for decision-making processes, definition of cooperation.

This is made possible by internal and external exchanges and the support of two experienced coaches: Anisha Imhasly and Aurélie de Lalande. Tools are being developed that can be used directly in difficult situations in everyday life. Ideally, a corresponding toolbox could also be helpful for other medium-sized guest venues.
