Flinn Works & Feminist Leadership in the Arts: Workshops on Feminist Leadership in the Cultural Sector

Many are talking about new forms of leadership, agility and new work. But where does this leadership lead, and with what attitude? Feminist leadership challenges old power structures. It is committed to a non-discriminatory society in which people and nature are not exploited. Feminist leadership means dealing openly and transparently with power and hierarchies, recognising and eliminating discrimination, strengthening care for oneself and others, and making decisions together. These leadership principles come from feminist movements, especially from the Global South and North America in the 1970s. In times of crises, wars and the rise of right-wing movements, they are particularly important around the world today. In this workshop, participants will learn some basics of feminist leadership for the cultural sector through interactive exercises and self-reflection. The aim is to create an open space for shared learning. The workshop is aimed at everyone, regardless of gender. Men* are expressly invited.

Feminist leadership

Feminist leadership is a practice that undermines traditional notions of power. It aims to create a socially just world in which neither people nor natural resources are exploited and gender equality is realised. Feminist leadership questions forms of art and cultural production and introduces concepts of transparency, accountability and collective decision-making. Its aim is to include people of all genders, backgrounds and abilities – and to pay them fairly.

Feminist leadership is not a formula but a path to a new art and cultural sector in which we also shape our processes according to our values and the content of our art.
