Vert le Futur – Alliance for Sustainable Culture: Tatenbank, Sustainable Culture Ecosystem Map and Alliance Building
Founded in 2020, the Vert le Futur association aims to make the Swiss cultural sector more climate-friendly, socially just and sustainable. As a national, multilingual and interdisciplinary network, it brings together artists, cultural practitioners and sustainability experts from all language regions. The association acts as a contact and coordination centre, knowledge platform and catalyst for transformation by promoting exchange, providing good practices and tools for sustainable action, and making them visible.
At the centre of this is the Tatenbank (Database of Action), a freely accessible online platform that empowers cultural players to put sustainability into practice. As well as guidance, it offers curated and professionally tested tools, practical examples and expertise on topics such as mobility, energy, inclusion, diversity and fair practice.
With the Sustainable Culture Ecosystem Map, Vert le Futur is developing a strategic tool for networking the entire sector. The digital platform is a searchable database of initiatives and players in the fields of environmental and social sustainability, promoting synergies and facilitating new alliances.
Building on these digital infrastructures, Vert le Futur is increasingly focused on physical meeting formats. The event series TATENtavolata brings together stakeholders in various regions of Switzerland to work together on specific challenges. In parallel, the series Taking Care of the Ecosystem explores key issues of responsibility, care and further development of the cultural ecosystem in collaborative formats with partner organisations. These formats strengthen trust, enable knowledge exchange, activate collective intelligence and promote long-term cooperation throughout the country.
Another key impulse is the international programme Creative Climate Changemakers Switzerland. It was first realised in Switzerland in 2024 by Vert le Futur in partnership with Julie’s Bicycle and is set to continue in 2026. The programme connects artists and cultural professionals in a network while strengthening and promoting projects at the interface of culture, climate protection and climate justice. It was initiated and supported by Pro Helvetia and the Mercator Foundation Switzerland.
The Alliance for Sustainable Culture is being established in parallel. It aims to promote joint learning, strengthen cooperation and increase political visibility. Its participatory development process is co-designed by Vert le Futur and involves networking relevant stakeholders and developing a common vision and concrete goals.
By combining digital platforms, collaborative event formats and strategic alliance building, Vert le Futur is laying the foundations for a learning and resilient cultural ecosystem in Switzerland.
Its focus is on the participatory development process of the Alliance for Sustainable Culture, which is intended as a permanent, strong network and political mouthpiece making a significant contribution to the ecological and social transformation of the cultural sector.
